INTRODUCTION 

A novel and a play can be read in the same way through the play may have some distinctive features. Apart from reading, the play can also be analysed in the same way as the novel or short story. See How to Analyse a Novel in the previous section. 

 

LE TEST 13: HOW TO ANALYSE A PLAY 

[1] Dichotomise between:  

(a) Novelist and playwright  

(b) Appreciation and interpretation  

(c) Stage direction and dialogue 

(d) Soliloquy and aside 

(e) Act and scene 

(f) Theatre and stage 

[2] Explain any five steps of analysing the play. 

[3] In one paragraph, explain the relevance of any 'dialogue' you are given by the teacher. 

[4] In one paragraph, explain the message and the lesson you learnt in the dialogue you have read.
