LITERARY QUOTE #05: 'Unanswered Cries'

LITERARY QUOTE #05: 'Unanswered Cries'

Exactly. It will reduce your appetite for sex and make you a clean girl” – Makalay’s Lawyer, Salaam Sesay.

Explanation:
From this quotation, we can learn a lot. According to Salaam Sesay and others who believe in FGM, circumcising girls is important for them for it reduces their appetite to have sex, that is, their appetite to enjoy (Of course because having sex is a sort of enjoyment!).  These people believe in this old, old-fashioned, barbaric way of life that is common to some African societies. Take an example of a man who enjoys eating meat because he enjoys it, and one day he is denied of that opportunity what will be his reaction? Obviously, his reaction will be protest and complains why he has been denied that right while he has his own money, mouth (Definitely given to him by God), and everything he has to get that meat.

This is what happens to girls like Olabisi. They have the right to defend themselves and with the help of others to make sure they crash this old tradition.

- Dehumanization

For Example:
In the book, the author shows that there are people who enjoy this bad tradition. However, there are other people who do not enjoy this tradition. The author defends that the people who do not want this tradition should be respected as well.
