Across and Through 
Across means a movement on a surface. 
EXAMPLES:
- We walked across the street. 
- We drove across the desert. 

Through means a movement in a three dimensional space, with things on all sides. 
EXAMPLES:
- We walked through the wood. 
- We drove through the town.
